THE STIRLING INTERVIEW 2012 v1.0 | Practitioner: Jeff Allison
This resource will use the same software as the Edinburgh and Chicago Interviews. The behaviour change focus is smoking. This 16-minute conversation with a middle-aged woman, is a reconstruction of a first appointment, using a modified script to better illustrate some of the essential components of MI. The imagined location is a UK National Health Service primary care health centre. The words of the patient are spoken by an actor. The practitioner employs common tactics – exploring importance and confidence, discussing pros and cons, clarifying possible goals for change.
In the course of this brief interview, the patient’s apparent readiness to quit smoking appears to be enhanced in some significant degree. The practitioner demonstrates some of the tactics for evoking change talk.
